Job Description

  • Position: Solar Consultant
  • Supervisor: General Manager
  • Time: Full-time, salaried + commission, exempt


Summary Description

Looking for an outgoing, energetic Solar Consultant to join our outside sales team. Solar Consultants are responsible for building a customer pipeline, negotiating solar contracts and maintaining a good customer relationship throughout the solar process. Our Solar Consultants will be provided 30-50% of their leads from company generated sources and be responsible for generating the rest themselves.

Primary Responsibilities

Sales Results

  1. Meet or exceed established sales quotas
  2. Focus on profit margin
  3. Maintain balance between closing the deal for new customers and ensuring the sales cycle is completed impeccably with customers whose jobs are in process


Market and Pipeline Development

  1. Networks
  2. Participates in trade shows
  3. Identifies opportunities for group selling such as solar open house events, seminars, etc.
  4. Uses marketing tools i.e. door hangers, to canvas neighborhoods


Building the Customer Pipeline

  1. Facilitates inside/outside sales, show room sales and trade shows
  2. Stay current on industry
  3. Develop personal network


Manage pipeline

  1. Make outbound calls
  2. Identify prospect needs
  3. Follow up on inbound leads
  4. Develop sources for leads
  5. Assesses and prioritize prospects
  6. Conducts site visits
  7. Determine prospects actual needs and requirements


Project Management

  1. Act as liaison between customer and installers
  2. Ensure job is completed as required


Customer Development

  1. Builds customer relationships
  2. Follows up with customer at completion of installation
  3. Asks customers for referrals


Team Work

  1. Works collaboratively with General Manager
  2. Works collaboratively with team of engineers
  3. Cooperates with installation crews, as needed
  4. Cooperates with fellow sales staff



  1. Attends training and meetings
  2. Other duties as assigned


Requires Skills and Abilities

  • 3-5 years outside sales experience required
  • Solar experience a plus
  • Positive attitude
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to work without supervision
  • NABCEP Certificate of Knowledge preferred
  • Solar installation experience preferred
